Get ready for the granddaddy of all book sales at the Point Roberts Community Center this weekend. The book sales have been generating $200-250 per week all summer, said organizer Judy Ross, and benefit the library building fund.
The upcoming book sale will fill both big rooms at the community center with over 10 times more books, Ross said, with the goal of clearing the stock of books out of the Julius fire station and getting closer to raising the funds needed to transform that building into a new library. The Friends of the Point Roberts Library have now raised $476,000 for the project, which they hope can begin in spring 2016, with a target budget of $538,000.
The last big book sale of the summer will run Saturday, September 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, September 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gulf Road community center. The event will also include a silent auction featuring antique books, even a first edition of “Fletcher and Zenobia Save the Circus” by Edward Gorey, other special art and book items and three refurbished Kindles.
