The Blaine school district is holding a meeting in Point Roberts to bring the community into the conversation about the district’s direction in the future.
A long-range planning session is scheduled for tonight, October 1, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the primary school on Benson Road.
The school district has enlisted the help of Mitch Everton, a former school board member in Anacortes who has worked with more than 30 school districts looking to develop future program goals and expectations, said superintendent Ron Spanjer. Everton will help the district determine how it is doing, as well as what its strengths, weaknesses and opportunities are, Spanjer said.
Everton has been meeting with different groups of constituents in Blaine over the past 10 days: community members, students, teachers, parents and staff. The meeting in Point Roberts, planned as a way for anyone interested to have a convenient way to be heard, will welcome members from all of those groups.
“We are open to anyone who wants to join the conversation,” Spanjer said.
In late October Everton will present the school board with a summary of the input he’s collected. “The board will work with that summary to set future program goals,” Spanjer said.
