The Point Roberts community is rallying to help out a familiar face at the International Marketplace.
A sudden and severe illness landed Krysten Cooper, a regular cashier at the store, in the hospital, where she had to undergo several medical procedures and blood transfusions. Her limited medical coverage won’t be enough to cover her expenses and ongoing prescription costs.
Kiniski’s Reef Tavern is sponsoring a medical benefit on February 27 and organizers are looking for donations of raffle prizes and auction items. Donors can contact Allison at 360/907-5982 or Michelle at 360/296-4434.
The event will start at 7 p.m. and feature door prizes, a raffle and a silent auction, as well as refreshments.
At the Marketplace, a “round up” button has been added to the tills so customers can round up their bill to the nearest dollar or make a larger donation to help Cooper. “We did it for the library and raised thousands,” said store manager Dean Priestman. “It’s nice. Small communities get behind people.”
Accounts are also being established at Umpqua and Banner banks to accept donations for Cooper’s medical fund.
