Fire chief Christopher Carleton has decided to postpone the implementation of a planned incident support team that would have allowed broader community participation in the fire department’s mission.
“This decision was incredibly difficult for me to make, however, other district priorities must take precedent,” Carleton wrote in a message to the 10 local residents who stepped forward to begin training as members of a new program.
“I am fully committed to providing the very best emergency services and support to our community and want any addition to our membership to be fully equipped to meet that expectation. I do not believe that you or this team would be given the training or ongoing support necessary to succeed at this time.”
While the idea is on hold, Carleton said it was not dead and he looked forward to revisiting the idea when other department priorities permitted.
