“November 1968”

Down the corridors of autumn’s
   deepening wind,
Blow the leaves from the gallant tree:
Returned to earth where nourishment
   began
This carpet gives much comfort to
   the land.
Oh, blow winds of winter over meadow
   and wood!
Rain down on the kind earth,
   accomplish your good;
Teach us the secret Mother Nature
   enjoys,
Teach us the ways she forever employs.
Glance down the meadow to a
   painting of peace
Sweet gift of winter our joys
   to increase.
