With the public hearing phase of its review complete, the review panel for the proposed Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project will move on to the final review of the proposed port expansion.
On August 27, the review panel closed the public record for the environmental assessment. The panel will now review all the information available and submit their report to the Canadian Minister of Environment and Climate Change, who will decide whether the project can proceed.
The proposal, which has been under environmental review since 2016, is to build a new three berth container terminal to the south west of the existing terminal and the coal port, as well as an expanded tug basin and a widened causeway. The project would create capacity for an additional 2.4 million 20-foot container units, more than doubling the current capacity of the Deltaport terminal.
