A special town hall meeting of the Point Roberts Community Advisory Committee (PRCAC) will be held tonight at 6 p.m. at the Gulf Road community center. The purpose of the meeting is to allow individuals interested in serving on the PRCAC board to declare their candidacy and offer their qualifications for one of the two at-large positions.
The term of the current occupant, Linda Hughes, expires next month and she is ineligible to serve more than the two terms she has held the position.
While the at-large position is appointed by the county executive, PRCAC is holding what is essentially a ‘straw vote’ to solicit the input of Point Roberts residents. The committee first tried this procedure in 2018 when Stephen Falk was “elected” to the other at-large position. Presumably, the county executive will choose the candidate with the most votes but he is not obliged to do so.
Voting will be done by email and is open to all those with property in Point Roberts. Each person in a household may vote. The deadline to vote will be December 19 at 5 p.m. Voters should indicate their choice in an email to the PRCAC at email@example.com giving the name of the person they are voting for and including your name and address in Point Roberts.
Anyone may attend the town hall meeting to hear out candidates. At time of press, Craig Grossman and Pam Sheppard are the only residents who have announced their candidacy.
