LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

The Editor:
I wish to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone who has helped us out since the unexpected passing of my husband, Rick Lopez.
Words alone cannot express how grateful we are for everything that has been done for us and on our behalf by so many in this community. It is impossible to list the names of all of the kind people who were there to attend to details and make sure that the simplest of things were not overlooked; you all know who you are, thank you. Special thanks to John and Jane.
Denise, Ricky, Rhyan and Rhachael Lopez
Point Roberts

The Editor:
Words along cannot express the warmth and comfort you have given our families at this tragic time in our lives.
We always knew Rick loved Point Roberts, but we were never sure exactly why. Of course, the beauty and location is unsurpassed, but we now know the real beauty is within the residents who are the definition of love, kindness, sincerity and unconditional warmth.
The unlimited treasures that were cooked, baked, and prepared with loving hands, and given to us to give us strength during this time so that our bodies could start to heal was unbelievable. However, the love, compassion, hugs, handshakes, unconditional sympathy has surely helped nourish our aching souls.
Limited space in this paper prevents us from having the ability to thank each and every one of you individually, but we would like to express our appreciation to: Pastor Ernie and Lola Loreen, who spiritually calmed our anguish, to Joan and Kit Roberts who unconditionally gave us their home to rest our weary bodies and fed our hearts at Brewster’s, to the Ice Girls who provided the promise of love that can and did bloom, even after death, to Valerie, who learned the music to our requested song for Rick overnight without sheet music, certainly our Lord helped in that endeavor.
To the many great people who prepared, served and cleaned the center for the celebration of life for our beloved son, husband, father, and brother, Richard Mark Lopez.
Our gratitude will forever be undying to the multitude of businesses that asked for and received the donations to aid our precious Denise, Ricky, Rhyan and Rhachael with unexpected expenses. We will be eternally grateful to each and every one of you for your spirit of friendship and kindness, and always remember, “Up the hill where the eagles fly, our beloved Rick will soar in our hearts forever.”
Richard and Lela Lopez, Deanne Hopper (Rick’s mother), Kyren, Kara and Brendan Lopez (Rick’s sisters and brother), Dee and David Archer and family (Rick’s second family).

The Editor and people of Point Roberts:
What a wonderful party you put on for our beloved son-in-law Rick Lopez. We lost Rick on January 27 as we were about to celebrate my birthday in Las Vegas. Rick took us to the airport Sunday morning and wished us good luck and a safe journey. By the end of the day he was gone. A victim of a massive stroke.
A fundraising dance was held at the Point Roberts bingo hall March 16 and many, many people helped to organize, donate, and volunteer their time, talents and money to help Rick’s family. The turnout of 300 people was a tribute to Rick and his family. There are many people to thank. The financial help was overwhelming (just a note short of $9,000) after all the expenses. I would like to thank the bands, Bocephus King, Crystal Tricycle, Ellen and Linda from the Bradfords and the Faggots and Peas band for their donated talents. Also, U.S. Customs and Immigration for allowing the Canadian bands to play in the U.S.
The evening was a huge success and very exciting for all the band members. The night went without incident despite the sound man being held up by a lady agent for a little over an hour at the border. There was a parking ticket outstanding in Quebec. However, after a late start things got underway and we had ourselves a party. I hope all the people there had as fun a time as I did. It was great to see old friends again and the highlight of the evening was to see the smile return to Denise’s eyes once again. Even if just for a little while.
Rick, you missed a hell of a party – or did you?
Dee and Dave Archer (Rick’s in-laws)

The Editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the kind and compassionate people who have helped out my family through these rugged times. There are so many of you who have lent a hand in helping us out that it would be impossible to list out the names. It really says something about the community when every one rallies together and pitches in to help out those who have lost. It shows that there are really caring people in a world of greediness and abhorrence. If it wasn’t for all of you caring people, there wouldn’t have been any chance that my family and I would have made it. My father did, and still means, so much to me.
He loved this town and he always thought highly of its citizens. I know that some of you, as well as I, will miss him dearly. I have learned many things from my father from working hard to achieve one’s goals, and to show the utmost respect to everyone. He was, and still is, one of my biggest mentors. I hope that I have made him proud of me, because I am so proud of him.

The Editor:
I give a big Happy Garbage Can Award to the Hammer family! They spent a sunny weekend picking up litter, garbage and appliances along Culp Court. On this one street, they picked up 1,080 pounds of garbage. Unbelievable!
And, to those scum who throw their trash along the roadside, you receive the Big Stinky, Bug-Infested Garbage Can On Your Head Award.
I also remind everyone of the community litter clean up on Saturday April 20. Volunteers can sign up and get equipment at the church from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Remember that year round, if you want to pick up litter, I have equipment you can use. Whatcom County Solid Waste pays for all disposal. For more information, call 945-1516 or visit the dump, Sunday 1 – 5 p.m.

The Editor:
We wish to thank everyone for all the love and caring they honored us with before and at the memorial held for our beloved daughter Keri.
Our thanks to those who set up chairs and tables beautifully set with candles and all. Our many thanks to dear Ernie Loreen for his lovely message and to the folks who made comments in Keri’s memory.
Also, all the cards, flowers, meals, etc. brought to us and the lovely refreshments brought to the after service, you all know who you are. And many thanks for the donations sent to the Pioneer Project in conjunction with the medical center.
We appreciate all the visits and love and blessings shown to us. We love you all and thank you for caring.
