OBITUARIES
Ronald A. Nielson
October 8, 1929 - November 16, 2002
Ronald A. Nielson of Point Roberts, WA passed away November 16,
age 73. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 50 years,
Beverley; children Brenda of New York, NY; Kristen of Rochester,
NY; and Lorne (Karen) of Point Roberts and grandchildren Benjamin,
Michael, Allan, Heather, Isabella and Jack; and his brother Gordie
(Kathy).
Born October 8, 1929 in Vancouver, B.C., he attended Moberly and
John Oliver high school and then worked at Universal Box Sawmill
for 16 years. In 1963 the family moved into their small cottage
in Point Roberts and Ron started Nielson Lumber and Supply.
Ron was active in the community with the chamber of commerce,
Pioneer Project, and economic development committee. He was instrumental
in establishing the first bank in Point Roberts, the Community
State Bank.
Passionate about golf, he was the driving force behind the development
of the Point Roberts Golf Club. He and Beverley were longtime
members of the Beach Grove Golf Club and they enjoyed the game
at their winter residence in Palm Desert, CA. Ron loved Hank Williams
songs.
In lieu of flowers, donations of remembrance may be made to the
Point Roberts Pioneer Wellness Group, Sterling Bank, 476 Tyee
Drive, Point Roberts, WA 98281 or Trinity Lutheran Community Church,
1880 APA Road, Point Roberts, WA 98281. A memorial service was
held Wednesday November 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church followed
by a celebration of his life at the Marina Club in Point Roberts.
