Point Roberts Lighthouse Society
By
David Niles
The mystery
has always been, Wheres the lighthouse at Lighthouse
Park? After receiving non-profit status from the IRS, the
society has been able to receive non-taxable contributions.
From the inception, the lighthouse project has had widespread
community support. To date we have collected $4,400. From the
Point Roberts Garden Tour(s) and the four beautiful works of our
Point Roberts Quilting Club which contributed another $1995 from
raffle ticket sales. Santa drew the raffle winners at the Point
Roberts Parks/Point Roberts primary schools annual Christmas
party on December 19. An anonymous benefactor has promised matching
funds for the first $5,000 raised bringing the total contributions
to date to $11,500.
The current board members are Frank Addison, Pauli Dehaan, Teri
LaPorte, Dave Niles, Maureen Stevens, Syd Wallace, Irene Waters,
and Ben VanBuskirk, park ranger at Lighthouse Marine Park. The
board wishes to thank everyone who has assisted in this project
(too many to mention) but especially the quilters, ticket sellers
and garden tour supporters.
