IN REVIEW
Blaine
School District
By Dr.
Gordon Dolman
There were
two major events during 2001 that affected students, staff, and
community of Blaine school district.
The tragedy on September 11 will always be remembered as the most
memorable day of the year we now end. The events of that morning
brought us together in sorrow and fear. Our churches were crowded.
Our feeling were shared. We began to learn more about a society
that previously had little major significance. Blaine school district
was no longer schools in the corner of Washington, but part of
the larger nation, occupying a major position in the international
picture. Two of our teachers were called to active military duty
from their reserve status.
Our Point Roberts students and their families were forced to face
long lines at the borders and the inconvenience of lengthy delays.
We learned about rumors on an international scale. We were
proud to find that our students are strong and show maturity far
beyond that which is expected. We met the need for constant communication
methods and alternate means of transportation.
The events of September 11 united us.
Our other major event the passing of the Capital Projects
Bond will also hold significance for the future. The citizens
of Blaine saw the present and increasing needs of our students
and the campus that serves as the heart of our community. The
construction process has already begun and will continue for the
next five years. During that time we will see increased safety
and security, more classroom space, and energy conservation improvements.
Plans call for additional construction or remodel to every area
of our district. The community is welcome to stop by the district
office for an update on the latest activity and to discuss upcoming
projects. As we close this year, we look forward to the improvements
at the middle and high school buildings.
The year 2001 served as a step into the future.
Blaine school district extends best wishes to all for 2002..
