INSIDE
Garden
tour set for July 21
Whats the Point? As well as being the name of the Point
Roberts group Terri Laporte coordinates, it is the question that
has produced a colorful answer; gardens. We asked ourselves,
what is the Point? she said, and its not just
gas stations, its not just the ocean. Its also natural
beauty.
Whats the Point? has put together the finest of Point Roberts
natural beauty in their fourth annual garden tour. Tickets, which
are limited, will give visitors access to 10 gardens of all sizes,
nine of which are new to the tour.
Only the garden of Tom and Karen Bradbury will remain on the tour
from last year. While Laporte called the garden the Bradburys
began four years ago, when the newly married couple moved into
their seaside home, absolutely drop-dead gorgeous,
they were modest. Its an ongoing project, Karen
said, were learning as we go. For moving onto
property overrun with blackberries and wild grasses, theyve
learned a lot. With their quietly elegant country home, the Bradburys
wanted a garden that would fit with their naturally beautiful
environment.
Tourists will find more than just delight for the eye; there will
be treats for the tongue as well. Everyone will be welcome for
tea at Maple Meadow Bed and Breakfast, and Brewsters and
Roof House will be offering garden tour specials.
A non-profit organization, Whats the Point? will donate
all ticket sale profits to the Lighthouse Project. Laporte said
that if tickets sell out, as she suspects they might, the donations
may be enough to give the Lighthouse Project enough to begin applying
for grants.
The tour will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on July 21.
Tickets are available by calling 945-2171, at a cost of $8.50
American, $12.50 Canadian. ..
