Briefly...

The Delta Museum and Archives in Ladner are currently looking for volunteer docents to help lead elementary school groups through the museum’s very popular school programs. These programs focus on topics like pioneers or First Nations life, and are always fully booked by Delta teachers early in the fall. However, without enough volunteers to lead the programs, the museum will not be able to offer this important resource to Delta teachers.

Docents take children through hands-on activities and museum tours focusing on different aspects of Delta’s history. Extensive training is provided. The commitment is one morning per week for the school year, September to May. Docents should be outgoing, enthusiastic and enjoy working with children. For more information contact Erin Fitzpatrick, program coordinator at 604/946-9322.

Delta Cable’s basic rates is going up $2.50 on October 15, according to a company announcement. The rate hike is the first since November 1993 and Delta Cable claims the increased revenue is needed to offset increasing programming costs, especially for ESPN. With the added cost basic customers will also get two new channels.
