AROUND THE
POINT
Effective February 1 Canada Customs has prohibited the admission
of firewood to Canada without a phytosanitary certificate in order
to protect the countrys forests from imported pests.
Point Roberts water commissioners went with experience and chose
engineers from Hammond, Collier, Wade and Livingstone, district
engineers for the last twenty years, to draw up a sewer facilities
plan for Point Roberts.
The Hammond, Collier, Wade and Livingstone proposal was chosen
from seven applications for the $55,000 job, which is 80 percent
funded by a U.S. Forestry Service rural infrastructure grant.
Terms of the grant give the engineers a year to finish the job,
which will look at three options for a sewer collection system
on the Point and evaluate the economic feasibility of building
a system and treatment plant. The study will also determine which
areas of the Point, if any, should be served by a sewer.
The following Point Roberts residents were awarded diplomas from
Western Washington University at the conclusion of summer quarter,
2001.
Edmund Alexander (BA); John LeBrun (MED).
