It was a homeowner’s worst nightmare as this
Bayview Drive cottage burned down March 10.
Parks department to can kids summer program. For the second year in a row, the Point Roberts parks department is looking at canceling the local summer program for children because they can’t find anyone to organize and run it.
Big plans for the Point Roberts marina underway.Terry Ritchey has big plans for the Point Roberts Marina, and small boats and slim wallets play just a small part in them.
District picks new superintendent. Dr. Mary Lynne Derrington has been selected as Blaine school district’s new superintendent, effective July 1. Her appointment was announced at the school board’s regular monthly meeting March 24.

Facing long odds, new voters association president Beverly Griffiths was able to field a full slate of board members at the group’s annual meeting.

Walk on... A new walking group has formed and it comes with good conversation and eats.

Attempt to invalidate appointment fails. Art Wilkowski took his position as the newest Point Roberts water commissioner despite a one-man campaign to have his appointment invalidated. Ignoring attempts by water board chairman Madeleine Anderson to keep him in check, John Lesow was on the warpath at the board’s March 12 meeting.

Simone Shern-Pope featured oboist. Local musician Simone Shern-Pope will be the featured oboist with the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra Chamber on Sunday, April 13 at 3 p.m. at the Mt. Baker Theatre in Bellingham.

Campbell trial date scheduled in June. The trial of North Whatcom Fire and Rescue Services fire chief Mike Campbell is scheduled for June 9 and 10.

Local woman visits South Korea as “Ambassador for Peace.” I was given the opportunity to visit South Korea for several weeks in February as an “Ambassador for Peace.”

Course hosts its second junior golf tour. The Western Canada Junior Golf Tour brought hundreds of young golfers and spectators to Point Roberts for two soggy days at the local golf course.
