Course
hosts its second junior golf tour
The Western
Canada Junior Golf Tour brought hundreds of young golfers and
spectators to Point Roberts for two soggy days at the local golf
course.
“Any other
golf course in the lower mainland would be unplayable, for sure,”
said a dripping tournament director Murray Poje on March 19, the
second and final day of the tournament. “It’s a great course.”
This is the second year the event has been at the Point Roberts
Golf and Country Club, which is fast getting a reputation for
dry greens in pouring wet weather.
As part of
four in the tour’s Alcan Spring Qualifying Series, the Point Roberts
event put 94 golfers aged 10 to 22 years old, both girls and boys,
through 36 holes with the same set of rules used by the pros.
“We run a professional tournament,” said Alec MacDonald, another
tournament director. “You could call it the Canadian tour for
kids.”
