Sheriff's Report

INSIDE
Health Matters

By Virginia Lester

The holidays are upon us. This may be a happy time for family and friends to gather in celebrations. It is also a time when we are tempted to throw caution aside. Goodies and high calorie foods may be our worst enemies. One simple way to approach this problem is to eat only very small portions and make healthy selections.

Exercise is important, but the truth is you will have to walk approximately one mile to burn only 100 calories. A large holiday dinner may count up to 1,500 or more calories. So, I encourage you to take control of your health and make wise choices.

The holidays can also be filled with sadness and loneliness. It is an especially difficult time for any of us to be alone. It is a great time to spread some cheer to those less fortunate than ourselves.

Another concern this time of the year is the threat of influenza. News alerts can be heard almost every day reporting the areas and number of people who are affected. This year the illness is expected to be very severe. It is not too late to have your immunization and we have plenty of vaccine. You are welcome to stop in to the clinic any time we are open to check your weight, blood pressure or get your immunization.

From your Aydon Wellness Clinic, we wish you all happy holidays and stay healthy.
