2002 Year In Review
Point Roberts Primary

By Linda Hughes & Maureen Millar

Four more seasons of fun and learning with our children, parents and community members in Point Roberts!

At the end of 2002, our Winter Celebration at the community center was a great success. The kids performed two shows, one for the seniors and one for their families. They entertained us with their songs and skits, and Santa even paid a visit to brush up on his Ôlist.Õ Certainly all had lots of fun.

The annual Easter egg hunt at Lighthouse Park is always a favorite. Over 600 eggs were hidden and retrieved by kids, and even some crows managed to swoop down and make off with their shiny prizes. Thanks to all the family puppies who came along and charged away the rascally crows!

Field day at the school included ribbons, the press, our firefighters, all kinds of races, smiles and end of school year celebrations.

The PTO hosted a Fall Fun Family Fair, which was a night for families to get together and have some fun playing games, dancing, cake walking and eating all the fantastic food that was donated by busy family members!!

We have also managed to obtain donations and volunteers necessary to paint hopscotch on the covered sidewalk at school. The kids are very excited about this new addition to their campus!

The PTO has also helped organize and implement ÒHowdy Post.Ó Our students became secret pen pals with some of our local seniors. Our volunteer postman delivers letters between the children and the seniors. The kids are having a great time asking questions and trying to guess the identity of their secret pen pals, from clues provided in their letters. These secret pen pal identities were revealed when the students performed their Winter concert at the seniors luncheon in December.

And this brings us full circle to the end of the year. We have lots more events planned in the New Year, and look forward to having new members join the PTO and join in the fun!!

Call the school for more information on how you can participate!
