There's a new sheriff (deputy) in town

"It's
a family condition,"Jeff Turner said of his career choice.
"All of my family's in law enforcement. You get to not be
inside and meet interesting people from a wide spectrum."
Now in his
third year as a Whatcom County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) deputy,
Turner moved to Point Roberts in early December, replacing Colin
Bertrand and joining Rich Emmons as one of the Point's pair of
deputies. The 28-year-old has spent seven years in law enforcement,
starting at the Whatcom County jail then working at Western Washington
University for two years before joining the WCSO.
Turner volunteered
for a two-year assignment to Point Roberts. "It's a change
of pace, something different, working tighter with the community,"he
said. His first month has been a busy one. "We are probably
getting 10 calls a day on the phone,"he said. He has also
been learning about the community, and one of the things that
caught his eye was the absence of any enforcement at the border
outside the port of entry. "That concerns me when I see little
bridges going straight to Canada,"he said.
