OBITUARIES


JOHN EDWIN AYDON
John Edwin Aydon of Point Roberts, WA. passed away November 30, 2002, age 86.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Kathy, of 62 years of marriage; son Phillip (Betty) of Arcadia, CA; grandson Donald (Michelle), great-grandsons Brent, Connor and Devin of Alta Loma, CA; granddaughter Pamela (Steven), great-grandson Ryan of Buena Park, CA. Predeceased by son John in 1979 and daughter Keri on February 11, 2002. He also leaves grandsons Jon Aydon of Seattle and TJ Bailey of Point Roberts.
Born September 21, 1916 in Vancouver, B.C., he attended John Norquay and Vancouver Trade Tech and then worked as a carpenter with his father’s company, J.E. Aydon and Sons.

From 1943 to 1946 he served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a Chief Petty Officer Shipwright. After WWII he again worked with J.E. Aydon and Sons taking over the business until 1956 and sold real estate until October 1958. He moved his family to Arcadia, CA where he worked as a loan agent for several loan companies.

On retirement in September, 1979, he moved to Point Roberts to establish permanent residence.

Ed loved fishing and gardening and was an avid golfer. He and Kathy owned a home on the sixth fairway on a golf course in Palm Springs, CA. On April 8, 1986 he scored a ‘hole-in-one’ at the Palm Springs Country Club.

Ed was a member of the Arcadia Lions Club, Elks Club, Palm Springs Masons and the Boundary Bay Lions Club. He was very involved as a member and held several offices in each club.

Well known and respected by many on the Point, he was known as the “Canman.” He was the main force and instigator of the proposed Senior Health Center (Pioneer Group). In 1990 he began systematically recycling aluminum cans and collected over $40,000 over a five-year period.

The Point Roberts Food Bank originally started in 1978 by and has been providing food for people facing difficult times ever since with the support of many of his friends. He was also a very active member of the Point Roberts seniors.

Services were held at the Trinity Community Lutheran church with a reception following the service at the Marina Club, Point Roberts.
