Get ready for a star-studded Fourth of July!
This year Fourth of July organizers are going back
to an old favorite ­ the silver screen. “The theme this year is favorite movies,” said Pam Oakley. “We did it in 1994 and everyone really likes it so we’re doing it again.”
County planners zoning out on Point Roberts
County planners are continuing to revise zoning laws to get the new Point Roberts subarea plan off the page and on the ground.
Parks board shows ‘can do’ spirit
The Point Roberts parks and recreation district’s summer program is back from the brink of extinction and new program director Jamie Tkachuk is drawing up a schedule for a month’s worth of activities and outings to keep local youth interested.

Road chief mulls future projects
When county road planners came to the Point to
talk about this summer’s maintenance schedule,
they found the community was more interested in trails and parking than new roads. Now they’re trying to get some of those projects on the county’s six-year road plan.

Parks board suggests portapotties
With the acquisition of the Maple Beach tidelands from the Whatcom Land Trust in February 2001, two long-standing Maple Beach problems, public parking and public restrooms, became the responsibility of the Whatcom County Council.

I am Virginia Lester, nurse practitioner at the new Aydon Wellness Clinic in Point Roberts. Wellness to me means we learn as much as possible about our bodies, our surroundings, disease prevention and health promotion. And then we work hard and take responsibility for our good health and wellness.

Whalen’s opens to rave reviews

Dollars For Scholars Recipients
A total of $11,000 in scholarships were given at the annual Dollar For Scholars awards night at the Point Roberts Community Center on Tuesday, June 17.

Taxpayers AGM set for Saturday, June 28
When the voters association came together for their annual meeting in March, acting president Beverly Griffiths was worried she might not get enough community members to pull together a board of directors.

There will be a town wide picnic held at noon Saturday, July 19 at Lighthouse Park.
