Kiniski is new fire division chief. At the last meeting of the board of commissioners for fire district #5, Nick Kiniski took the reins as division chief, only a few months after he made the transition from volunteer to career firefighter.
EMS levy: Assisting Point Roberts a priority. Assisting and enhancing Point Roberts EMS delivery is high on the list of priorities if the EMS levy is passed said David Hammers of the Bellingham Fire Department.
Commissioner appointment questioned. Point Roberts water district commissioners Lorne Nielson and Madeleine Anderson have chosen local garbage man Arthur Wilkowski to replace Tom Prescott on the board, but the appointment is being challenged because the decision appears to have been made behind closed doors.

New commish...
Art Wilkowski was appointed to the vacant third slot on the Point Roberts water district board of commissioners February 24.

New pathway part of trail network. A new trail leading from APA Road through marina-owned land to Lighthouse Marine Park is only one segment of a new trail network being developed by the Point Roberts Marina.

County council passes pier resolution. Whatcom County Council unanimously approved a resolution ordering an election for the proposed Point Roberts Special Recreation Pier Service Area at its February 11 meeting.

Enrichment Scholarship Project, a philanthropic project of Assistance League of Bellingham, will again offer summer scholarships for students in all Whatcom County school districts.

Blaine girls win division championship. Blaine defeated Sultan 60-37 on February 20 down south and Lakewood 66-31 on February 18 at Blaine in NCC girls basketball action to extend their undefeated skein to 22 (they won their last two games while finishing fifth at State in 2002).

Mini International Scout Jamboree this month. If you’re wondering why you see so many Scouts wandering around the Point during the last weekend in March, the explanation is simple. It’s the second annual Mini International Scout Jamboree which is scheduled to be held March 28-30 at Lighthouse Marine Park.
