Health
Matters
By V.
Lester, MSN ARNP
This month
I have two subjects to discuss. First: Immunizations. Every parent
is made aware of the necessary requirements for their children
by the school system. If your child is not immunized, they will
not be able to continue attending classes until the immunizations
are brought up to date. However, parents of children who are home-schooled
may not have these reminders. This puts the responsibility on
the parents to keep records current.
Adults also
require important necessary immunizations, as recommended by the
Department of Public Health and Human Services and the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention. Tetanus boosters every ten
years, yearly influenza immunization, pneumococcal vaccine and
hepatitis B are recommended for adults. There are many facilities
that provide yearly immunization updates and I encourage everyone
to check your records and keep them up to date.
The second
topic involves people who require help filling their needs of
daily living. The Aydon Wellness Clinic would like to pair people
who need some type of assistance with people who would like to
help out. I am now in the process of gathering a group of helpers
and I need to know who needs help and what services are required.
If you would
like help with errands, transportation for appointments, simple
shopping, food preparation or just a friendly visit, please phone
us at the clinic, 945-2580 and provide the following information:
your name, address, telephone number and how to contact you and
what your needs are. All information will be held strictly confidential.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Announcement:
We will have a health education seminar at the senior center on
November 8 at 11 a.m. Dr. Peter Beglin from the North Cascade
Cardiology and Chenille Pratt from St. Joseph’s Cardiac Rehabilitation
will discuss heart health. Mark your calendars and save this date.
Reminder
that the clinic is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10
a.m. until 4 p.m. Appointments are not necessary, but are recommended.
Always feel free to stop by and have your blood pressure checked
or weigh-in if you like, of course, at no charge.
