Bankruptcy, tax grab on fire commission’s plate
In November Point Roberts will be asked to agree to pay twice as much in taxes for fire and emergency medical protection, which two out of the Point’s three fire commissioners argue is needed to provide round-the-clock response and smooth the road to merging with North Whatcom Fire and Rescue Services (NWFRS) partners.
Voters to give approval first, their money later
“I’m not asking for money, I’m asking for endorsement,” said Terrie LaPorte, chair of the Point Roberts Chamber of Commerce pier committee.

EMS ok to provide $103,000 to the Point
While Point Roberts voters will only be a small voice in deciding whether to adopt a countywide levy to support emergency medical service (EMS), if the levy passes local taxpayers will be handing over a sizeable chunk of cash to the local fire department.

Seniors ready to rock on Fridays
The parks board and the seniors association are presenting a united front in asking voters for an additional $5,000 to provide a second day of activities for seniors.
