AROUND THE
POINT
The 5th annual
international joke telling contest will be held August 16 at 8
p.m. at the Point Roberts community center on Gulf Roac.
Last year,
a Canadian won the coveted first place spot. This year many are
anxious to find out if the Americans can wrestle back the title
of Best Joke Teller. There will be prizes for the winners and
refreshments for all in attendance.
Sponsored
by the Friends of the Library, the event is free and open to the
public. Come and tell a joke or just come for the laughs.
The Point
Roberts water supply came up with a clean bill of health for 2002.
The water district’s annual water quality report lists no violations
of drinking water standards in any of the ten pollutant classes
measured. The district tests at least once a year for fecal coliform
bacteria, nitrates, lead, copper, radiation, arsenic and organic
compounds. The last test for asbestos in 1998 showed insignificant
levels of the carcinogen.
