It’s Friday and chow’s on!

by Armene Belless

On Friday, June 4, the entire community is invited to tour the senior center from 11 a.m. - noon to help celebrate the beginning of Friday operation. Tony Slater will provide the live entertainment and refreshments will be served. Please come and see our computer lab and ‘internet cafe.’ Our new bocce ball courts are just about complete, the pool tables await and maybe we can even recruit a few folks for our new “Looney Tooney Kitchen Band.”

The senior center has been open on Wednesday for many years, courtesy of Whatcom County Parks Senior Services and the Council on Aging. Last year, with the cooperation of the Point Roberts parks district and the support of voters, we were able to finance a second day of operation on Fridays.

Through the generosity of many parties in our community we now have seven computers and we were struggling to teach internet skills with only one computer online. Whidbey Telephone came to our rescue and generously donated DSL for six computers! Now our classes are more exciting and seniors can check their email or ‘surf the net’ anytime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. (As long as a class is not in session.) Doug Ritchie and Mark Millman are our teachers/technical volunteers.
Please read the Seniors Point in every issue of the All Point Bulletin to keep up with our activities, lunches and classes.

Every Wednesday and Friday dozens of volunteers keep our center humming. We have a reputation for being a friendly and active group of people. All seniors (age 55+) are welcome at our center, whether they are a full-time or part-time resident or just visiting our beautiful Point Roberts
