Small
business help available
The Small
Business Development Center (SBDC) recently hired Sherri Daymon
as their new rural business development specialist. This outreach
position is funded through the Port of Bellingham to help strengthen
small businesses in outlying communities and foster economic vitality
throughout Whatcom County.
Sherri has
a Masters in Business Administration from Western Washington University
and previously worked for Brown & Cole Stores, as an information
systems instructor at WWU and as an assistant store manager with
a local paper retailer. Sherri has a broad range of experience
in financial statement analysis, software instruction, strategic
planning and performance measurement.
“With the
financial support of the Port, we are now able to expand our services
to the rural areas of Whatcom County with technical assistance
counseling. Sherri will be working one-on-one with business owners
and managers, offering direct support to the communities of Point
Roberts, Blaine, Ferndale, Lynden, Birch Bay, Everson-Nooksack
and the Mt. Baker Foothills,” says Tom Dorr, SBDC director. Sheri
brings a high level of energy and enthusiasm and looks forward
to working with small business owners throughout Whatcom County
assisting them with loan packaging, marketing research and strategies,
personnel issues, business plan development and general problem
solving.
The Small
Business Development Center is part of Western Washington University’s
College of Business and Economics. The SBDC offers free confidential
counseling, conferences and seminars for small businesses. The
center is funded through the Small Business Administration, Western
Washington University’s College of Business and Economics, the
cities of Bellingham and Sumas, the Port of Bellingham and community
donations.
