OPINION
By

Every weekend in Point Roberts, it is like an invasion force
has just crossed the border and then occupies certain designated
areas until Sunday night when they evacuate these temporary sites.
In days past these invaders inhabited such locations as Bell’s
Trailer Park, the Cannery and Lighthouse Park. Now, these Friday
night border crossing Canadians have permanently part-timed themselves
into the neighborly routines of the Sunny Point Resort share
and care society. Their nurturing attitude towards each other
seems almost religiously kind.
On the
left, Louise Kernaghan from New Westminster who is part Irish
joins the morning coffee cup communion service with Dale
and Maureen Hume, Irish and English respectively, of North
Vancouver. These extreme lovers of boating, fishing, clamming
and crabbing have created a tight network of friendships
with the locals while they are creating a utopian society.
This international free zone is where everyone shares their
own opinions without feeling a need to dispute each other
because they are older and much less insecure and do not feel
the need to be rude or combative.
When we reach out and embrace our neighbors we see pictures
that enhance every day life in our own international community.
