INSIDE
And
they’re
off to Seaside, Oregon
By Joe Ferguson
Six members
of the Point Roberts Blue Herons, Wellness Team will be attending
the Northwest Wellness Conference for Seniors, in Seaside,
Oregon from October 17 to 22.
The Blue
Herons are an independent group of seniors and others in the
Point Roberts community and are not affiliated with, supervised
by or sponsored by any other group. They are probably known
best for their walking group - the Downtown Wackie Walkers.
The
group of six will be attending seminars, learning while at
the same time, looking for new ideas to bring back to the
Point for all the residents here, not just seniors.
In the past
year alone, the Blue Herons have:
1. Expanded the walking group,
2. Worked to get out the vote,
3. Distributed over 1,000 file of life packets in the community,
4. Assisted in bringing the nail clinic to the community
center,
5. Set up exercises within the walking group,
6. Set up the Fit for Life program with the Aydon Wellness
Clinic,
7. Set up swimming and weight exercises at Winskill,
8. Donated a ping pong table to the community center,
9.Worked with the parks board to establish a bocce ball area
for the community,
10.Through the Aydon Clinic, set up a program for enlightening
seniors on health issues, and;
11. Improved the quality of the snack time food for the walking
group.
The amount of volunteer activities and hours put in by this
group in the community are too numerous to mention or to count.
The
Blue Herons Wellness Team attending this year’s conference,
(totally at their own expense) will be - Sally Roberts,
Sylvia Schonberg, Jim & Joan Linde, Bev Griffith and team
leader, J.K. Ferguson.
Other members of the Wellness Team not attending this
year are Henry & Esther Rosenthal and Dona Dyde.
