Sheriffs Report

FRONT PAGE

“This year is our 10th so the two days will be our birthday party,” said arts and music festival organizer Pam Oakley.

Each day of the July 30 and 31 event will start off at noon with birthday cake and a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday, then move on with music, dance, art and fun until the sun goes down. “Noon to dusk – it’s simple that way,” Oakley said.

The Saturday program will be broadcast on Bellingham’s KAFE radio and will highlight Point Roberts performers. “Our main focus for Saturday is our locals,” Oakley said, which will include The Hassles, Cyndal and Jay and recent Blaine grads Mary Marshall and Selena Pears. Festival regulars the Rahma Dancers will also perform on Saturday, while Sunday will feature familiar faces like Bocephus King and Craig Jack and the Mighty Jackalopes.

Each day music educator Rob Brower will lead a drum circle at 4 p.m. “The drum circle unites people and gives a sense of community,” Oakley said. Participants need to bring their own drums and children will have the opportunity to make their own instruments in daily workshops.

Getting bigger every year, Oakley said the festival would be packing even more vendors onto the boardwalk, mixing massage, psychics and soap with the traditional art and food vendors. “Huge,” Oakley said. “It’s huge and fabulous.”
