Showgirls
raising
money for breast cancer
Local business owner and cowgirl Pat Buckler has joined a select
group of fundraisers putting their horse sense and community
ties to work to raise money for breast cancer research.
“I’m 61, I’m healthy, I’ve lost three
friends to breast cancer and treasure 11 survivors, one of whom
is my sister,” Buckler said. “I needed to do this.”
Buckler will be one of 20 “showgirls” who will represent
their communities in the Cowgirl New Year celebration and Buckler
will represent Point Roberts. A co-owner of Westwind Marine,
Buckler joins members of parliament, business owners, mayors
and athletes from across British Columbia who will use their
community connections to try and together raise $50,000. “It
has to be a real woman who’s involved in her community,” said
event organizer Dixie Jacobson. The showgirls will join Miss
Rodeo Canada at the New Year’s Eve event to hand over their
donations.
To donate
money to the campaign call Buckler at 945-5523.
