Petite
Picassos now have drop-in art program
“Instead
of a greenhouse it’s going to be a red,
blue, yellow, green or purple house,” said Heather Good,
self-described as the host of the new summer drop-in kids art
program that’s taking up residence at Bloomers Garden Center.
The
nursery is donating space to the newest venture of the Point
Roberts Arts Foundation – a whole summer of Saturday
art projects. “Every session a guest artist who will
either demonstrate or help participants through an art project
in their specialty,” Good said. Already on the list are
birdhouses, appliqué, and kite making. Guest artists
will also bring directions for take-home projects.
“We’ll
also have art materials freely available at every session
to follow your own creativity,” Good added.
Sponsors
for the summer art program include Bloomer’s,
All Hues Painting, Captain Bob’s Sales, Point Roberts
Realty, Nielson’s Building Center, Nading Plumbing
and Heating, and Dylan’s at Point Roberts Shell.
Good
said the program would start on July 9 and run through
August, Saturdays from 10. The cost is $20 for the season
and the program is open to kids aged six to 12. Children
under six can participate if an adult is there with them
for the duration of their attendance.
Teens can
participate as well as “art mentors,” helping
set up and clean up each session and lending a hand
to the younger kids. “It’s like a job,” Good
said. “There’s
no pay but then you don’t have to pay to participate.”
