You’re
fired!
An alert
neighbor called sheriff’s deputies
after seeing a Bellingham roofing company truck dumping trash
at the end of Deer Road, and got the mess cleaned up the next
day.
“I
was home for lunch and heard this crashing sound and this truck
drives by lowering his bed and his eyes got all round when
he saw me in the window,” the Moose Trail
resident said. Sheriff’s deputy Rich Emmons said they
contacted Top-Side Roofing following information the neighbor
had seen on the side of the truck and the company agreed
to clean up the mess. “As far as the sheriff’s
office is concerned it’s done,” he said, adding
he understood the company would be terminating the employee
responsible and no charges were expected.
Emmons also
congratulated the neighbor who reported the dumping, and encouraged
anyone who witnesses illegal dumping, even if it’s just
a bag tossed out a car window, to report it. “If
people see it happening get us license plates or information
and we can address it,” he said.
Topside
Roofing owner Bill York said the employee who had dumped the
roofing material had acted on his own, intending to “come
back for it,” and had been fired. “We got another
guy up there the next day to take care of it,” he said. “We
dealt with it.”
