Get set for some good jokes

By Davea Fisher

It was standing room only at the Seventh Annual International Joke Telling Contest. This popular event, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, was M.C.’ed by Campbell McClusky and was judged by the staff of Dylan’s at Shell. Karen Neufeld, Sue Longo and Shannon Savage.

For the first time women played a prominent part in the line-up as eight out of the 12 joke tellers were gals. Each of the participants told three or more jokes, which made for a fun-filled evening of laughter. First prize was awarded to newcomer Lucy Williams.

The other prizewinners, in descending order, were: John Calvert, Brock Tully, Mary Atkinson, Peter Reynolds, Derek Ward, Emily Bouchard, BJ Kish, Debbie Kishineff, Rose Momsen, Armene Belles and Kris Lomedico. Local merchants and Friends of the Library donated the prizes.

The Ha-Ha Cup, awarded to the best joke teller, is on display in the library. Now the cup has the name Lucy Williams, the 2005 winner, engraved on it.
