Health Matters:
What Can You Expect At The Point Roberts Aydon Wellness Clinic
By Virginia
Lester,
RN, MSN, ARNP
Several
people have asked questions again regarding what they can expect
from the Point Roberts Aydon Wellness Clinic. We are re-running
this previously run article to clarify some of those questions.
The Aydon Wellness Clinic is a primary care family clinic with
services provided by a family nurse practitioner, board certified
in family and geriatrics. The scope of practice allows you
to receive care that includes:
• Urgent, acute and chronic illness care.
• Minor surgery and repair of lacerations and injuries.
• Physical exams and wellness care for all ages and genders.
• Consultation and referral to specialists.
• Prescriptions for all legend medications and controlled
drugs II-V required for treatment.
• Laboratory testing done here in our lab with specialty
tests sent to Northwest Laboratory at St. Joseph Hospital.
• Evaluation and treatment for mental health issues.
• Continuing care and case management for patients in Point
Roberts.
• Community health leadership with an emphasis on preventative
care.
Today, people
choose from many different health care providers. Each discipline
has a different approach to education and practice requirements.
The objective is to deliver the best quality care possible,
the type of education and experience is not always the important
factor. Patient satisfaction and results are important.
I hold
a master’s degree in nursing and a bachelor’s
degree in psychology from the University of California at San
Francisco. I became board certified in Family and Geriatrics
after a two-year internship with a physician. I have over 20
years experience and was a full partner in a large medical
practice with 12 MD’s and Nurse Practitioners in California.
I developed and directed the Graduate Nurse Practitioner
program at CSUF, was the director of the Alzheimer’s
Diagnostic Center and Assistant Clinical Professor at the
University of California, San Francisco. I am required to
keep my skills current for re licensure through continuing
education classes, medical conferences and teleconferences.
Everyone
is welcome at the clinic. I am credentialed and compensated
by most of the major insurance companies and we have a sliding
fee scale for low income residents.
Thank you
to all of the Point Roberts residents who have supported the
clinic.
