Breast cancer benefit

Emily Smith of Point Roberts will join thousands of other dedicated women and men at the Seattle Breast Cancer 3-Day benefiting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Participants walk 60 miles during three days to raise breast cancer awareness and to raise money for critical research and community outreach programs.

This is the second time Emily has participated in the event. In 2003, she completed the walk and raised over $3,000. “I wanted to participate in the Breast Cancer 3-Day because I lost a very good friend at an obscenely early age to breast cancer and I wanted to do something bold to help fight the disease – and what better way than to challenge myself physically and emotionally,” said Emily.

The walk begins in Seattle on Friday, July 22 and ends with closing ceremonies on Sunday afternoon, July 25. Walkers cover about 20 miles per day.

In order to participate, each walker must train for the event and must commit to raising a minimum of $2,100 (many raise more than the minimum).
