2004 In Review
Point Roberts Arts Foundation, Inc.

By Pamela Oakley and Craig Jacks

We have done some amazing things in the past year. We have expanded our news coverage and advertising to include the Vancouver Sun, the Province, the Georgia Straight; as well as the All Point Bulletin and The Northern Light. In addition to radio 102.7 in Vancouver who provided us with free publicity for the past four years, this year KAFE 104.3, one of the most popular radio stations in the northwest, broadcasted for two days from the Arts and Music Festival.

We have an ongoing music program to bring music lessons to economically challenged children. Sometimes this involves actually buying an instrument for a child who otherwise would have no way to develop his/her talent.

We found out that the art budget for Point Roberts primary school is a paltry $80 a year. We found a donor and picked up and delivered approximately $4,000 worth of art and paper supplies to the school.

The Arts Foundation has an annual art auction and this year we had the Blaine high school jazz ensemble perform. We hosted a Sunday Art Walk to stimulate the local economy and to give artists a venue to sell their work. The Arts Foundation is now bonded and assisting artists and performers to bring their work from the mainland and Canada. In conjunction with Trinity Lutheran Church, the Arts Foundation started an after school program – the Point Roberts Youth Group. They currently meet Monday nights 7 – 9 p.m. This creates a safe haven and drug-free recreation for high risk teens in our community.

This year, our vendors and artists were top professionals. Our booth space occupancy reached capacity. We implemented better signage, better decorations and a more complete ambience.

We have really seen change and progress over the past 10 years of the Point Roberts Arts and Music Festival.

There are no paid administrators, directors or volunteers within the organization. One hundred percent of your donation goes directly to creating a better community in Point Roberts through embracing the arts. The Arts Foundation and the citizens of Point Roberts wholeheartedly thank all our local sponsors and look forward to our next decade serving Point Roberts.
