Don’t
waste the water!
With snowpack
at its lowest in 30 years, Northwest communities that rely
on surface water are getting ready for a lean summer.
Point
Roberts water district manager Dan Bourks said the Greater
Vancouver Water District, which supplies the Point with water,
is implementing conservation measures and sprinkling restrictions
starting June 4 for lower mainland communities. Point Roberts
users are also being asked to conserve water where they can
and limit sprinkler use to early morning and late evening.
The
best place to start cutting back is in the garden, Bourks
said, using soaker hoses in flower beds and vegetable patches,
equipping hoses with spring-loaded shutoff valves, and keeping
sprinkler use to a minimum. Bourks said district staff would
keep an eye out for unusually high use to help customers find
and repair leaks.
