Two dozen Point Roberts parents are petitioning the Blaine school district board to draft a long-term strategy for handling fluctuating enrollment at the local primary school, rather than shrinking services when the student population dips.

Principal pleads not guilty
Blaine high school principal Dan Newell has filed a not guilty plea on charges he obstructed an investigation and aided a criminal activity, and a trial date has been set for August 4, according to Whatcom County chief criminal deputy prosecutor Mac Setter.
