Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200...

By Meg Olson

James Jarosz, the only adult convicted in association with the smuggling of marijuana on the Point Roberts school bus, is back in jail after violating conditions of his parole.

The 20-year-old was released from Walla Walla state penitentiary into community custody on December 14, 2005, with almost half of an 18-month sentence remaining.

Jarosz pled guilty to four felony counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance on March 3, 2005. A warrant remains active for Robby Poor, alleged to have set up the smuggling scheme with Jarosz and involving a number of high school students to transport marijuana for them on the local school bus. ”We are continuing to actively investigate this,” said county prosecutor Mac Setter.

Conditions of Jarosz release included reporting to a community corrections officer in Bellingham, paying for his supervision while on parole, not using or possessing drugs or guns, and DNA testing. Department of corrections records do not indicate which condition was violated but an arrest warrant was issued and served on March 21.

Point Roberts deputies arrested Jarosz March 21 and he was booked into Whatcom County Jail in Bellingham the next day and transferred to the Snohomish County Jail later that day due to overcrowding at the Bellingham facility. It is not known how long he will remain in jail.
