OPINION

By Jerry Gay
Love and
romance are something that we as mere mortals find very difficult
not to overly contemplate, passionately desire or have a near
fatal attraction for. Every television network’s
soap opera, many best selling novels and box office hit movies
focus their themes with complicated love stories with over the
top plots with the main characters attempting to get their “fair
share” before the end. Madison Avenue ads promote people
seeking love except when they are already married, in a very
high political office, of the same sex, very underage or “just
average” looking folks.
On the other
hand, people also love animals and we most often agree that
animals need love and attention just as humans do. Many animals
fill in as companions for those people who decide for any number
of reasons not to be involved with another human being at a
particular time. In today’s
world almost everyone has a pet or two or three. Dogs, cats,
fish, snakes, gerbils, birds, horses, reptiles, etc often fulfill
our desires to give love and get love in return. There is nothing
more stunning than the look in the eyes of man’s best friend,
take Phinn on George Road for instance.
When
we reach out and embrace our neighbors we see pictures that
enhance everyday life in our own international community.
