annual holiday craft fair this December

“If
you want to meet your neighbors and see what they are making
this is your chance,” said Samantha Scholefield,
organizer of the Point’s annual holiday craft fair and
dinner, now in its fourth year. “We’ve sold it out
every year we’ve done it.”
Twenty Point Roberts crafters will present their work in
a craft fair open to all comers from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
on December 9. Scholefield said work would include jewelry,
crochet, paper crafts, wreaths, candy, glasswork, photography,
soaps, baked goods and Renee Coe’s recently self-published book, a photo journal
of last year’s devastating winter storm.
The event has a fundraising role. Dollars For Scholars will
hold a book sale and the historical society will sell their
cards featuring historical Point Roberts.
“They are the coolest things,” commented Scholefield
on the cards. Proceeds from the evening dinner raffle will benefit
the food bank. “Over the past three events we’ve
raised almost $5,000,” Scholefield added.
From 1 to 3 p.m. Santa will drop in, invited by the local
parks district, to have a chat with local children and hand
out a few treats.
Whatcom County extension services will also attend the event
to talk about sustainable agriculture practices and shoreline
stewardship.
Later in the day there will be a roast beef dinner, seasonal
music and more shopping. “This is a real community dinner,
kid-friendly,” Scholefield said.
At 6 p.m. guests can enjoy music by local jazz trio MBT
while they browse the sale area. At 7 p.m. local chef Steve
O’Neill
will serve up a roast beef dinner and a dessert spread courtesy
of the Cottage Pantry will follow.
“There is an amazing diversity of people who come,” Scholefield
said. “It’s a real community celebration and a chance
to meet your neighbors.”
For dinner tickets call Pattye McGill at 945-0339.
Adults are $18/$20CDN or $10 for children under 12.
