Police cracking down on impaired drivers county-wide

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Department will deploy extra traffic patrols throughout the holidays this year.

The extra patrols are part of a statewide effort of law enforcement agencies to look for drivers who are impaired and will last until January 2, said Julie Furlong of the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission.

Other law enforcement agencies in Washington state and Whatcom County are also participating in the increased enforcement including Blaine, Ferndale, Bellingham, Sumas and Lynden police departments, Western Washington University Police, Lummi Nation law enforcement and the Fish and Wildlife Department.
