New
firefighter joins the ranks
Whatcom County Fire Department #5 has a new accredited volunteer
firefighter. At a ceremony on Friday, May 19, in Bellingham,
Joseph Gary received his certificate of completion for firefighter
I from the Whatcom County Fire Chief’s Association Recruit
Academy.
After 11 weeks of strenuous training, real-life re-enactments
and extensive studying, 28 new volunteers graduated into several
Whatcom County fire departments. Joseph Gary was selected as
one of five graduates to receive the Chief’s Company Award
for leadership ability, enthusiasm and academic excellence.
Joseph
lived in Tsawwassen most of his life and graduated from South
Delta Secondary School where he played both rugby and football.
Later Joseph attended Langara College in Vancouver. He has worked
at a number of different jobs on the Point – as a server
at South Beach House and briefly at Whalen’s and as food
and beverage manager at Point Roberts Golf and Country Club.
He left there to become food and beverage manager at the River
Rock Casino in Richmond. He has now returned to work at Point
Roberts Golf and Country Club. He also works occasionally at
South Beach House.
