New administrator named

By Meg Olson

Hospital district commissioner Margery Biery has resigned to take on the job of district superintendent.

“We were so delighted with the number and depth of applicants,” said commissioner Barbara Bradstock. “They were extremely impressive and it’s been a difficult decision.”

Bradstock and Vic Riley, the other remaining board member, interviewed six applicants including Biery on February 17th.

The hospital district superintendent “is kind of like an executive director,” Bradstock said. The superintendent serves as a liaison with service providers and the board, supervises clinic operations, sets a budget for the clinic, and negotiates contracts. “There’s a role in making sure everything is going well,” Bradstock said. The position is part time – up to 10 hours a week – and will pay no more than $30 per hour.
Biery was the best candidate overall because of her background in administration and her deep knowledge of how the hospital district operates. “She would be able to hit the ground running. So far we, and largely Marge, have been sharing these duties,” Bradstock said, adding she also has the personal skills to take on the leadership role. “We have found her to be effective, efficient and competent as a commissioner,” she said.

Bradstock and Riley will now appoint a new commissioner who will run for the position in the November general election. “We’re kind of taking a deep breath and starting to hunt for candidates,” Bradstock said.

Biery will now take over the job of getting clinic oversight transferred from the fire district. “We’re in the transition period and we hope the new plan will be in place by May and the clinic will officially be part of the public hospital district,” Bradstock said.
