INSIDE

And it all came tumbling down

It was the end of an era and the beginning of a new one when new owners Bruno Freschi and Vaune Ainsworth decided the last week in April that the old Clark’s Store building on Cedar Street and Bayview Drive would need to come down for them to build their home on the property. Ainsworth said they had originally intended to restore the building but ran into too much rot and structural issues. “It’s got to come right down,” she said.

The good news is that the new combination home and office is likely to become a landmark at Maple Beach itself. It will be designed by Freschi, a well-known Vancouver architect who was the chief planner and designer for the 1986 World Exposition, for which he received the Order of Canada.

Ainsworth, a psychologist, said both enjoy painting so the building will incorporate studio space.
