Principal’s
Corner
by Nancy Bakarich
As a principal it has been my pleasure to work with the community,
parents, staff, and students as we continue to grow as individuals.
The students at Point Roberts Primary School will be stepping
up to the next grade and new adventures, which I am sure will
provide them with fond memories.
As with everything, I hope that the year has been good to everyone
and that they leave on June 15 with fond memories of the past
year. Have a wonderful spring and summer and I hope to see many
of you over the last few weeks of school and again next fall.
Kindergarten,
1st and 2nd Grade
by Rita Worth, Teacher
The end of this school year is approaching with spring upon us
and classes over before summer. The academic gains and social
lessons have been many. Children have grown and blossomed like
the plants around us. With the love and care from home and school
everyone reaps the rewards. What beauty!

A Note
from Elaine Komusi
Well, 2006 marks the year my last child graduates from the Point
Roberts Primary School. Both my son and my daughter stared
at this wonderful campus and I feel both got the best headstart
ever! My daughter has moved on to Blaine and is doing well
there and my son will follow in the fall.
Rita, Pam, Anita and Lynn are all wonderful, welcoming and
skilled people who have worked together diligently over the
past year to make the school what it is today. My son has all
the academic fundamentals to prepare him for the higher grades
and with Rita’s “whole
child” education philosophy, his learning has been diverse.
Whether you choose Blaine for grades 3-12 or whether you have
other ideas for your kids, the Point Roberts Primary is certainly
the best place to start!

The transition to kindergarten can be difficult for the little
ones as well as their parents. Our son Matthew was determined
that this year was not to be the year he started school. Thank
goodness for the wonderful staff at Point Roberts Primary who
succeeded in winning him over to the idea that going to school
could be a safe, fun and exciting new adventure. He is now
so happy and keen to go to school and is eager to learn and
participate with the new friends he has made. His potential
is being nurtured and we can see the growth in his spirit
for learning and exploring the world around him.
Matthew is our second child to attend Point Roberts Primary.
We feel he is getting an excellent start in all areas of educational
development, as was the case for our daughter, Emilie. With
class sizes that would be the envy of most schools and the
beautiful setting surrounded by trees and nature, we as parents
feel confident that those ever so important first years of
schooling are well served with a start at Point Roberts Primary.
A note from Donald Pinckston
What makes a community strong and vibrant? I would submit that
it is a firm commitment to the education and well being of
its next generation. The children of Point Roberts may not
realize it now, but I have no doubt that they are the focus
not only of concerned parents, but also of a caring and competent
staff at Point Roberts Primary School. The student showcase
fair demonstrated to me fantastic individual creativity, and
a high level of collaboration not only with the teacher but
also with other students and family members. The day reaffirmed
in me a deep pride for our community and a sense of optimism
about our children’s future. The warm chocolate chip
cookies afterward didn’t hurt either!

I’ve been pleased to see the Parent’s Corner in the
All Point Bulletin and I felt I had to write something too,
in support of our wonderful school. My daughter Annie, is in
grade 1 and couldn’t be doing better, both academically
and socially. It is so nice to have her close by and for me to
be able to join in the occasional trail walks and attend the
plays the children put on. I had tried teaching her to read before
school but let’s
just say she wasn’t open to my teaching style (!)....Well,
Mrs. Rita Worth must be doing something right, because Annie’s
reading has taken off by leaps and bounds. I highly recommend
our local school to anyone with kindergarten to grade 2 aged
children. I wouldn’t consider any other options.

We could not be happier to have our daughter Aisha in grade
1 at Point Roberts Primary. You could not ask for a better
school environment! I was able to join the class and enjoy
their beach field trips, as well as apple picking at the Meikle
farm! We continue to look forward to those field trips monthly!
We were also pleased to meet with the Blaine specialists, Leaf
Schumann the counselor, Kim Duff the reading specialist, Katy
Ackerson the librarian/technology specialist and Shannon Mihelich,
special services, all who visit monthly. Aisha’s favorite activity
is playing hockey in the playshed on rainy days!
