OPINION

By Jerry Gay

The evening television news special programming lately has been filled with warnings of global warming, climactic changes and catastrophic forecasts for generations to come. Still others have said that this is all part of normal earth cycles and we have nothing to fear except people with over the to rumors and apocalyptic speculations. Indeed, when a news segment endorses immediate environmental corrective measures the following big story is a business analysis of General Motors’ potential for huge sales of highly polluting gasoline consuming cars in the emerging Chinese market.

It seems that when it comes to changing everyday societal procedures of what is going on right in front of us that no politician wants to step forward and demand corrective measures be taken to bring the human population into some sort of compliance with earth-friendly methodology. Besides that, we are more preoccupied with what to read, wear, eat, drive, listen to, dance to and be seen with at any given moment rather than help make a difference. Anyway, our daily schedules are full, so who is to say anyone would be close to the phone when Mother Nature makes her 911 call.

When we reach out and embrace our neighbors we see pictures that enhance everyday life in our own international community.
