2006
Point Roberts Arts Festival
By Craig Jacks
This year was a busy and engaging year for the Point Roberts
Arts Foundation (PRAF). The 11th annual Arts and Music Festival,
B.C. day long weekend August 5 & 6 ran smoothly, thanks to
the beautiful weather, many volunteers and the staff at Lighthouse
Park. Once again it was well attended as over 10,000 people passed
through the gates. Steve O'Neill’s live music and beer
garden at his (about to open) restaurant at Pier Point was a
great new addition.
The PRAF music school provided free instruments and semi-private
instruction from accomplished local musicians volunteering their
time for our youth. (Twelve sessions in spring and 10 this fall.)
Special thanks to Gil, Tavish, Steve, Ron, Linda, Jim, Sylvia,
Lucy, Simone and the Trinity Lutheran Church for opening its
doors every Wednesday evening.
The Eyes Of The Innocence summer children’s art classes
conducted at Pier Point featured day trips to paint local scenes.
Look for announcements of up coming classes.
The children’s arts and recreation program started in October
and continued through December thanks to Heather, Sasha and Allison.
This year’s highlight was the 2nd annual Halloween event
at the Dockside Restaurant, featuring a haunted house and many
games and prizes. It was a huge success, over 100 kids. Thanks
to Westshore Terminals, All Point Bulletin, International Market
Place, Captain Bob’s Emporium, KAFE 104.3 and Sterling
Bank and staff for their much needed and continued support.
The PRAF is in its 13th year and is proud of its involvement
with our community and is looking forward to another year of
service. We see a need to bring families and children together
through event programs like these in our somewhat isolated community.
PRAF is a non-profit charity status foundation and can give out
tax receipts for donations, as well as welcoming new volunteers.
