Parent’s
Corner
by Tracy Jacobs
From rumors
I’d heard
So Jacqueline went to Blaine
And rode the Bluebird.
The days were too long
And the campus was crowded
SHE decided to come here
And has never pouted.
She loves her school home
And gives allegiance each morn.
Who’d have thunk she’d have been
So loyal when she was born.
She knows now that in the third grade
She’ll get back on the bird
And go on her way.
Happy to have had
Her time spent here
And looking forward
To year after year.
Principal’s Corner

Happy New
Year and welcome back to 2007! I hope everyone had a restful,
fun-filled Winter Break!!!!
It was wonderful to see so many parents, relatives, and community
members at the Winter Concert. Thank you for your continued support.
The teachers and students did an outstanding job and I am so
proud of them. I would also like to thank all of you who helped
make the program and Pot Luck Dinner successful.
November,
December and January have proven to be very challenging with
weather patterns. First large amounts of rain, then winds with
power outages, then finally the snow. We are all hoping that
winter is behind us. We, at the district, appreciate everyone’s
understanding throughout the recent snowstorms. Our #1 priority
is the safety of our students. There are times when, Mr. Spanjer,
our Superintendent, is able to make decisions the night before
regarding school closures/delays; this may not always be the
case. Please listen to your radio, TV, call the snow hotline
(332-0789), or visit our website (www.blaine.k12.wa.us) to check
on the latest news on school closures or delays. Once school
has been cancelled it will not change, but if we have a late
arrival time or weather is questionable, please listen as weather
can change overnight and the school status may also change. Remember
we follow Blaine Primary/Elementary School news bulletins.
As expectations for all students to succeed increases, so do
the expectations at school and home in regards to the work required.
With everything that we do, we cannot help our students succeed
without your help. Please take the time each night to talk with
your child on what they did that day at school and ask them at
least one thing that they learned.
If you would like to meet with me or stop by, please let the
office know.
Kindergarten,
1st and 2nd Grade
by Rita Worth, Teacher
Children
love to tell their adventure stories. They all came back after
holiday breaks to school with “snowy” stories.
Many had sledding and snow girl making tales along with reports
of power outages and slipping and sliding. Some children’s
families had meals over wood heat inside and one even had a fun
bonfire outside. These stories took form in writing, drawing,
and painting at school.
Our spelling
practice became the theme of our annual winter performance.
With snowy weather as current news and the recent unusual global
weather, we sang away…”S-u-n-n-y,
s-u-n-n-y, s-u-n-n-y was our weather” (referring to August-September)
and “Snowy is our weather.” Older students found
most months and seasons of the year to be manageable spelling
words while the younger ones chanted r-a-i-n-y, w-i-n-d-y, and
c-l-o-u-d-y at appropriate times.
Tiny little snowflakes whirling all around.
Make a snowy blanket all upon the ground.
Softly covering buds and plants.
Until spring comes ‘round.
Writing
and spelling lessons along with the other basics and music
and physical activity at school will keep us busy and productive
this long winter…”until spring comes ‘round.”
